Flashback to 2012: Academy Award-winning ‘Life of Pi’

Life of Pi

I was pleasantly surprised by this journey of a boy attempting to beat the odds and survive at sea with a tiger. This was not the tame, child-friendly adventure I expected where man and animal miraculously get along without realistic challenges and obstacles. Instead, this movie magnificently captures through the camera’s lens just how small we are in the world, particularly, the food chain. ‘Life of Pi’ is about what separates humans from other species and has kept us from extinction; our powerful minds with a will to survive, the ability to keep our wits about us, and yes, maintain our faith–even when facing insurmountable odds and tragedy. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards, ‘Life of Pi’ stands formidable and dangerous going into Oscar night. Steven Spielberg may want to mark his territory right now.

Grade: B

UPDATE: ‘Life of Pi’ received eleven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and won four (the most at the 85th Academy Awards) including Best Director for Ang Lee.

Not ‘Life of Pi’…just me.  I don’t always pose with tigers.  But when I do, I wear flip flops.
