Jake Gyllenhaal transforms self in ‘Southpaw’

P90X guru Tony Horton Jake Gyllenhaal has transformed his body into a masterpiece lab specimen for next year’s “Southpaw” film, from director Antoine Fuqua (2014’s “The Equalizer) and written by TV’s Sons of Anarchy director/writer Kurt Sutter.

Here’s Jake Gyllenhaal’s new look for “Southpaw”, playing a modern-day Rocky Balboa boxer who has hit rock bottom and must struggle to get his life back in order.

SouthpawGyllenhaal’s very good 2014 is going to get exponentially better in 2015–with certain Oscar buzz for “Nightcrawler” and talk about “Southpaw”.

No release date yet for “Southpaw” but the cast and film’s distributer have been selected. Dreamworks dropped the picture and has been replaced by The Weinstein Company while Gyllenhaal replaced musician Eminem in the lead role.  The one- two punch of director Fuqua and writer Sutter has landed Oscar winner Forest Whitaker (for 2006’s “The Last King of Scotland“) and the sensational Rachel McAdams. Rounding out the splendid cast are Naomi Harris and actor/boxer “Vicious” Victor Ortiz, the former WBC Welterweight champion.

Look for “Southpaw” and Gyllenhaal to garner comparisons to “Rocky” and Sylvester Stallone’s physical transformation into the Italian Stallion.
