MOVIE REVIEW: American Hustle

Viewers get an early Christmas present from Director David O. Russell (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook). This film is much more than a shell game played by con artists in 1978.  This movie is about characters, control and relationships draped under comb overs, behind tinted glasses and inside polyester suits.

A brilliant script with many laughs is overshadowed by an even stronger cast. Sometimes movies with too many previous Oscar nominees & winners don’t offer each star enough screen time to reward moviegoers with their rare skillsets. That isn’t the case here; every scene in this movie is rich, compelling and maximized character development…none more so than Christian Bale’s best performance seen to date–highlighted by awkward hair, protruding gut and his continuous out-of-breath scheming.

This is a movie that will be talked about around office water coolers until the Academy Awards are handed out in March. Don’t miss out on the discussion or a great movie “from the feet up”.
